Garda Compensation Scheme Claims

garada-scheme-min.jpg
The Garda Compensation Scheme provides compensation to members of An Garda Siochana who have sustained injuries during the course of their employment or to the dependent family of members who have been fatally injured in an incident relating to their employment.
Therefore, in order to pursue a claim from the Garda Compensation Scheme Claims, you must be either:
  1. A member of An Garda Siochana who has suffered a physical or psychological injury related to your employment; or
  2. The dependant of a member of An Garda Siochana who has been fatally injured in an incident related to their employment.
If either of the above scenarios apply to you, you may be entitled to compensation for physical and psychological injuries. You may also be entitled to compensation for your out of pocket expenses, including medical bills and loss of earnings. Contact Callan & Co. Solicitors today on 042 932 8053.
It is not necessary that the member was on duty when the injury was sustained. A member or their dependents may pursue a claim for compensation if the member was exercising powers or otherwise acting in their capacity as a Garda when off duty or on leave. A member of their dependents may also pursue a claim for compensation if the injury was sustained due to work previously carried out by the member in the course of their employment with An Garda Siochana. For example, a member who is off duty and is assaulted by virtue of being a member of An Garda Siochana may also apply for compensation.
It is important to note that a claim must be submitted within 3 months of the date of the incident. The Minister for Justice Equality & Law Reform does have the discretion to extend the time limit but an extension is unlikely to be granted unless a valid reason can be shown for the delay.
